  Mission Focus

Precious Blood Parish Mission currently presents two different parish missions: Proclaiming Abunant Love and Celebrating Unbounded Mercy. Each mission is rooted in the spirituality of the Precious Blood, but is helpful to people no matter what their own personal spirituality may be.

Each mission consists of three distinct elements: Preparation, Celebration and Follow-up. A group of eight or more parishioners gather several times during the month prior to the mission to help with preparation. The mission preaching team arrives on Firday to lead the parish during the celebrations. Follow-up to the mission is optional, but can consist of people gathering weekly to reflect on the scriptures from the liturgy of that weekend or to receive additional training in ministry. The local mission team or another group of parishioners organizes and conducts the follow-up using tools provided by Precious Blood Parish Missions.

Mission Formats
Precious Blood missions can be celebrated as a parish mission or a weekend retreat.

The parish mission begins with a retreat for the local mission team on Saturday. The mission preachers conduct this retreat and preach at all the weekend Masses. One celebration takes place each evening - and possible a second time earlier in the day - lasting about an hour and fifteen minutes.

The retreat format begins with a mini-retreat for the local mission team on Friday evening. Parishioners gather for the retreat on Saturday and Sunday. The first three celebrations take place on Saturday - one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. The closing Mass takes place at one of the parish Masses on Sunday morning. A session would take place after that Mass.

Special Celebrations for Children

A special liturgy of the Word and activities designed especially for the children of the parish is part of each celebration. One of the preachers ministers with the children as they celebrate and come to understand more deeply God's abundant love or unbounded mercy in their own lives. They are part of the rituals with the rest of the community, too.

Other Options
Preachers are willing to visit classrooms, preach at children's liturgies or schedule a special celebration just for the children of the parish school or religious education program. This might be done to augment or encourage further participation by the children in the Children's Liturgies of the Word mentioned above.

Parishioners who are unable to attend the mission due to age or infirmity are also invited to share in the mission. Prayer booklets designed for their use at home are available. The preachers are also willing to visit people in their homes or to conduct a simple celebration in assisted living or nursing care facilities in the parish so that the elders and infirmed can be part of the mission, too.

Faith Sharing
During most of the celebrations of the parish mission, parishioners are invited to share their faith with one another for a few minutes.

At the end of the mission, they might be invited to form faith sharing groups to reflect on the sacred scriptures and make them come alive in their own lives. A simple method - based on Lexio Divino - is provided, and anyone can learn to share their faith with others. These groups might meet at the church or in people's homes.
